A Warm Hello
Hello! I’m missing all of you! I have had the opportunity to see some of you online or occasionally walking the trails, but I really miss seeing so many of you in person every week. I have taken a break from in studio yoga teaching for the time being as I focus more on Somatic Therapy, really taking care of myself and my family, and honestly moving slowly amongst all the change. I’m adjusting the best I can to this new normal. It is a roller coaster. Sometimes its simple, and at other times, it’s a real challenge. I know I’m not alone in this. It’s been a strange combination of an easeful schedule that brings more time to study and learn, cook, read, walk & spend time with my family; and then occasional moments of anxiety. I'm feeling all the feels! My Somatic Therapy practice is quite busy and I continue to teach a couple of classes online.
What am I excited about right now?
Lately I’ve been “nerding” out on the exploration of our essential nature. I believe that underneath our ongoing concerns and stress of modern life we are animals, we are nature. This nature knows calm abiding, it knows what it means to be at peace, even if on the surface we feel that’s unavailable to us. On the *podcast “On Being” Michael McCarthy, author of The Moth Snowstorm: Nature and Joy, talks about how for 500 generations we have been farming and progressing towards modernity, but for 50,000 generations we were wild animals. We evolved in a way to be at peace in nature. This isn’t to say that we didn’t realize that nature can be a dangerous place, but we evolved to be at peace in it, not so the modern world of bill payments, mortgages, airplanes and social media.
I have noticed in Somatic Therapy sessions that most people find nature to be a resource. Its the place where there is a level of calm. I believe this "calm" or steadiness, to be our essential nature. The inner sense of calm and wellbeing and equanimity that we glimpse in nature is within us. Being outdoors is therapeutic and in my opinion, we should spend a lot of time there, but the internal state is available to us when we are indoors or in the city as well. A lot of my therapy sessions and yoga teaching are being influenced by how we uncover this fundamental peace and wellbeing. Exploring this essential nature will be part of the following upcoming, online series, Restorative Meditation and Embodiment.

Restorative Meditation and Embodiment
Many people have mentioned a nervousness around the approaching fall. I too feel this. How are we going to feel as our lives move more and more indoors with the coming shorter cooler days, while the pandemic continues, and the fatigue of social distancing continues? I don’t have the answers, but I feel that it would be really lovely to gather together once a week to relax and connect. I’m calling this time “Restorative Meditation and Embodiment” because I think it would be really sweet to do this practice in a restorative shape. We will explore our essential nature, relax and connect inwards. Please bring whatever soft props you have; blankets, pillows, bolsters, eye pillow, and wear pajamas😊 No experience necessary.

New Website
Finally, I have a new website (Thanks June!) If you haven’t seen it yet please check it out!
I’m really happy with the way it looks and how easy it is to use. If you’ve been wondering about what somatic therapy is, it’s answered on the website. I’m currently seeing people in person and on line.
That’s all for now! I’d love to hear from you so please feel free to drop me a line and let me know how you’re doing.
With love,
Kerri
